About Mike Kephart, AIA

Mike Kephart is an architect in Colorado who has been licensed in more than 20 states. Last year, Kephart retired from the practice he founded and led since 1973. During those years KEPHART Community Planning Architecture designed countless residential communities, individual homes, and apartments.

The concept of “housing for later life” has consumed his full attention in recent years both for his own life and the millions of people who face more years beyond 50 than any previous generation. In 2007, Kephart was honored by the 50+ Council of the National Association of Homebuilders as their “Icon of the Year.”

Kephart founded Sidekick Homes. Sidekicks are accessory dwelling units (ADUs) that can be placed on single-family lots in the backyards of existing homes or as new construction along with the primary home, primarily as dwellings for aging parents, adult children, or caregivers.
